With nothing more than a machete and a camera, brothers Paul and Derek Rose march into the thick Amazonian jungle. For more than 24 hours the two brothers will learn to survive with nothing but their wit. Llaco (Jacko) their native guide, will teach them to hunt, fish, and find fresh water (from a tree vine) using only what’s available in their surroundings. With any luck, in two days they will depart for the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu…
The series Sick of Home fills a much-needed niche in the travel/adventure genre. Each episode will take viewers on an exhilarating ride with brothers Paul and Derek, as they make their way around the world, experiencing new cultures, competing in native games and sampling exotic cuisine.
Sick of Home will explore the relationship between Paul & Derek, focusing on their shared experiences while highlighting their varying views of the same situation. The Rose brothers innate ability to find themselves in interesting situations, locales, and the occasional native competition will prove entertaining no matter what the location – in many instances demonstrating that despite all else, blood is thicker than water.
At each destination, local “adventure guides” will aid the brothers by providing helpful insight into their unique culture, and showing them local customs, foods and locations not privy to the everyday tourist. Portions of the show will also focus on eco-friendly & other “green” travel locations, highlighting destinations and companies that stress a zero carbon footprint philosophy. Whether they are competing in a tribal village’s traditional game, or head-to-head in a local extreme sport, segments of each episode will also pit the brothers against each other.
This refreshing take on the typical travel show engages the viewer by sharing travel tips and giving the audience the tools necessary to create their very own travel adventure. Traditional travel shows all share one common theme; they simply show the location without delving into the hidden gems or showing the path less-traveled. Sick of Home will act as a visual travel guide, providing up-to-date information on hundreds of destinations while simultaneously sharing their adventures with the viewer.
By using a “show & engage” approach in place of the typical “show & tell” formula, Sick of Home creates an environment in which viewers experience every taste, sight and sound with the brothers. Viewers are shown where to go, places to stay and what options await them at each destination. Pop-up information, including websites, aerial maps, alternative adventures, local cultural information, historical facts and other useful data will appear throughout each episode. The Sick of Home website will also be frequently updated with recommendations on accommodations, food, activities and other pertinent information relating to current episodes. Viewers will literally be supplied with the tools necessary to embark on their own travel excursion.
Unlike other adventure travel shows, Sick of Home has endless options in terms of episode production. There are literally thousands of destinations just waiting to be explored; add a few extreme sports, local customs, unusual foods and the enthralling banter between the Rose brothers and Sick of Home offers viewers hours of heart-pounding, jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring entertainment.
